PTA & Class Reps

PTA

When your child starts school, you and your extended family become members of the PTA - Parent Teacher Association - and are welcome to get involved as little or as much as fits in with your busy lives.

What the PTA do:

Not only does the PTA raise funds for the school, but it also organises a wide range of social events that help everyone at the school feel like they are part of the big Kew Riverside family. PTA events include the new parents social evening, quiz nights, bingo nights, comedy nights and the annual family camping night.  Our two main events of the year are the Christmas Fayre and Summer Fayre.

What the PTA have raised funds for:

Over the last few years, the PTA have raised funds to subsidise schools trip and workshops, helped purchase new computing equipment, new books for each class and funded a creative arts week for the whole school. The PTA raised more than £10,000 for a new school library - the Kew Jungle.

Not only does the PTA raise funds for the school, but it also organises a wide range of social events that help everyone at the school feel like they are part of the big Kew Riverside family.

Parent Voice / Parent Reps:

Class Reps meet with the Head Teacher at least once each half-term.  Parents and Carers are encouraged to contact their Class Rep to raise concerns or pose questions on their behalf.  This is an extremely important 'voice' for the Head Teacher to hear and respond to, especially for parents and carers who do not regularly drop off or pick up their children and have less contact with the school on a day-to-day basis.  The forum aims to be inclusive and informal, honest and open, and is led by parents to represent parents.  It is an excellent opportunity for both the school and parents to share ideas and bring about positive change.

Here are a few ways you can help:

Volunteer

All parents and carers are automatically part of Kew Riverside's PTA and being involved in any way you can is a great way to meet new people and raise money for our fantastic school. We have regular meetings and are always planning the next event, so if you can help in any way or have some great fundraising ideas, please come to the next PTA meeting or chat with your Class Rep. We look forward to seeing you and your families getting involved!

As another great initiative we have teamed up with the Empties Please, Bags2School and Terracycle to help reduce landfill and also earn extra cash for KRPS. Take a look below at all the things we are now collecting:

  • Ink Cartridges, Toners & Mobile Phones
Empties Please will collect and recycle used ink, toner cartridges and mobile phones and will donate the money raised back to us! A recycle bin is located in the School Office. If you could also collect from your places of business that would be greatly appreciated and we can provide bins and collection for that as well - the more cartridges we can collect the more we can raise.
  • Clothing, Linen & Toys
Does your family have clothes that no longer fit, toys they no longer play with, books you no longer read and bric-a-brac you no longer need? Then bag it up and bring it to school for collection. Even ripped, damaged and stained clothing will be accepted but please bag these separately.
  • School Uniforms
If you have any uniform items that no longer fit or book bags no longer in use, we are happy to accept them as donations. Please bring these to school and leave them in the Office for collection.

Class Rep Guidance

Class Reps play an important role in building good communication between parents and the school. They liaise with the PTA, are very welcome to attend PTA meetings, and help muster support for any PTA events. Class Reps have their class teacher’s email address and have regular meetings with the school’s Leadership Team to discuss any issues with communication.

CLASS REPS KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supporting the school to ensure good communication through:
- Communicating key information to parents: Class Reps will have their class teacher’s email address and can clarify or give additional information to parents. They may, for example, pass on general information about the school or class that has not been included in the weekly bulletin.
- At the beginning of the year, class teachers and class reps will meet to confirm expectations regarding response time for emails/communications.
- Maintaining Class Lists – A list of all parents in the class, with their contact details should be created and circulated at the beginning of the year. The information is confidential and cannot be obtained from the school. New parents should be approached and asked for details and permission to circulate them.
- Inducting new parents – Starting a new school can be daunting, especially learning all the new routines and expectations. Class Reps will be given the contact details of new parents and asked to make contact and, where possible, organise a coffee morning to welcome them.
- Organising Social Events for Parents – Coffee mornings and social evenings are an effective way of helping parents get to know each other and generating a good team spirit in your class.
- PTA Events - A big part of the work of the PTA is to help organise fundraising events for the school. Class Reps do not necessarily need to attend PTA meetings, but they should try to ensure there is class representation at each meeting. They will work with the PTA to organise class parents to help and support running these events.
- Next Year’s Reps – Towards the end of the year, Class Reps should try and find at least two volunteers to take over responsibilities in September.
