Welcome to an exciting year in Year 1 & 2! We have a fantastic curriculum planned, exploring pivotal events and themes. In cycle A, we will delve into The Great Fire of London, learning about key dates, significant people, and the events surrounding this historical calamity. As we mark Remembrance Day, we will honour those we remember and the sacrifices made for our freedom.
Our topic, My World and Me, invites exploration of the UK, its position in relation to the equator and the poles, and a comparison with Ecuador. We will also introduce the teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, explore Buddhism through symbols, parables, and places of worship.
Additionally, the History of Nursing will focus on remarkable figures like Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale. To cap it all off, we will embark on an adventure to locate jungles around the world.
In cycle B, we will fully embrace the season by celebrating Bonfire Night and learning about Guy Fawkes and his plot. As we move into November, we will commemorate Remembrance Day, reflecting on the courageous individuals we honour and why they are significant to us.
Our adventures will take us down under as we explore Australia, investigating its climate, culture, and diverse landscapes. We will learn directional language to help us navigate our findings. Additionally, we will delve into Judaism, discovering why the Torah holds special significance and exploring its captivating stories.
Our history lessons will include fascinating insights into medieval castles, particularly the iconic Tower of London. Lastly, we will become mapmakers, using keys and human features as we chart our own paths, inspired by intrepid explorers such as Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead!
